Update! Bike-Walk Path

We got ahold of a little more official full map of the bike-walk path today. Billy Blann walked us through the current layout plans for the trail, and according to our map layout it comes out closer to 2.8 mile instead if the 2.4 we originally thought.

For the best view of the map follow these steps

After clicking the link to the full screen map look for the button that says MAP OPTIONS

Then pick the HYBRID option to get a satellite view with a road overlay for the best view

The Saturday Update

Frist Saturday ride of the year is behind us ( I wa… I mean some people where much much further behind than others!). Heres the map and the climbs for the day. Next week there will be two groups, a 20 and a 40 mile. I think i’ll be leading the 20 miler…

For your true elevations click the “Elevation Corrections” button in the bottom left corner

The next group ride will be Tuesday at 5:30 , 20 miles

Bike-Walk only Path on the Way

The city has finilly broken ground on the Bike-Walk only path around the Loins Club golf coures. The path is the fist of its kind in El Dorado and is being mostly funded by a grant from the State Highway Department.

It’s Been Awhile

 

I know it’s been awhile sence our last post, but we’re back and better than ever! A lot is Happening in the cycling world around El Dorado, and my goal is to bring you a new article at least 3 times a week (if not more) to keep everyone up to date on whats going on around El Dorado, Union County, and Arkansas (with a little northern LA thrown in there).

Check back regularly for updates on:

• A paved bike/walk trail around the Lions Club Golf Corse
• New bike routs, with street signs pointing the way, in Union County
• El Dorado looks at its first bike lane
• A bike race in Down Town El Dorado for spring
• Mountain Bike trail in Parkers Chapel soon to be open to the public

Snow!

This was the view we had pulling into our house tonight, my wife’s car covered completely with snow is not something you see everyday in south Arkansas. All of the snow got me to thinking about the long-term forecast for this winter, so I went and looked up the trusty old Farmers Almanac (yes it’s online just like everything else anymore) according to it we’re in for a very VERY wet March and April. Hopeful that will give way to a perfectly mild summer because it’s really messing up the early riding season. The cold weather hasn’t stopped everyone though I talked to a few riders today that have been putting in 2-300 miles a week!

This may be old news, but Lance Armstrong has a new team, Team RadioShack! I’ve posted the roster for the new team below, and if you read through it you’ll see more than a few names you’ll recognize. Lance and Johan Bruyneel (Team manager and Lance’s long time coach) have been busy. Even if you don’t recognize most of the names click on the link at the bottom of this post to read their profiles and you’ll see A LOT of old U.S. Postal and Team Discovery riders. They just finished The Tour Down Under, their first race of the year, and you’ll be surprised to find out who the fastest man on the team is so far, but we’ll save that for another post.

Arkansas Mountain Bike Championship Series

The AMBCS has posted their 2010 Calendar of Events, and it looks like we have a new course to try out! Degray Lake is the new kid on the block,  so we don’t know much about it yet, but as soon as we can we’ll let you know what we dig up on it. First race is the Womble Mountain Classic on May 30th 2010 (which is a Sunday). The Wonble is 38 mile of some of the best trail ever built in Arkansas, and has been added to the list of IMBA Epic trails. Team EDC will be there, so team member or not give us a call if your planning on going and we’ll help you out with the details.
